Derek was born in Mexico City and is fluent in both Spanish and English.

After completing his studies in Business Administration he worked in Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende, Tapalpa and now in the Lake Chapala area of Mexico.

Derek is an active member of a local Ecological Development Group lakeside and interested in environmental issues.

He has traveled extensively in most European countries, throughout Central and South America as well as in Canada and the United States.
